Ant and Dec win Best Presenter for the EIGHTEENTH time despite McPartlin’s year off from TV… as Bodyguard, This Morning and Emmerdale also scoop top prizes

Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly claimed the award for Best TV Entertainment Presenter at the National Television Awards on Tuesday evening, despite Ant’s well documented absence from TV for much of the year.

Accepting their prize via. link from the Britain’s Got Talent auditions, Ant admitted he ‘didn’t really feel he could accept’ the award, and went on to praise his presenting partner Declan Donnelly for holding down the fort during his break.

The hugely popular presenting duo beat Bradley Walsh, Graham Norton, Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby to the coveted prize as the winner was announced in front of a star-studded audience at London’s O2 Arena.

He said: ‘This is a genuine shock especially this year I’m shaking we want to say thank you to everybody, I really don’t feel like I can accept it, the one reason we won this award was this guy, his wit his determination, I love you pal.

Dec then added: ‘Thank you so much to everybody who sent kind and thoughtful they kept me going while I was flying the flag for the two of us.

‘But this year more than ever thank you to all of you who picked up the phone and voted to us. Special shout out to Dermot for saying he’d throw in the towel if we won, so happy retirement Dermot!’

Ant then finished their speech by emotionally adding: ‘It’s good to be back well done pal!’
