Karl Lagerfeld goes out with style: Anna Wintour joins fashion high society to see Chanel legend cremated before his ashes will be ‘mixed with those of his mother and his one true love’
The fashion community gathered to say a final goodbye to legendary designer Karl Lagerfeld at his funeral on Friday afternoon, with some of the industry’s leading lights turning out to celebrate the life of the style icon.
Lagerfeld, who once famously quipped ‘I’d rather die’ than be buried was cremated in Nanterre, west of Paris, and it is thought that his ashes would be scattered with those of his mother, and his late partner Jacques de Bascher, who died of AIDS in 1989.
The fashion world has been in mourning for the designer, who was as famous for his acerbic wit as he was his groundbreaking fashion designs, since he passed away from pancreatic cancer aged 85 on Tuesday,
Vogue editor-in-chief Anna was among well-wishers saying a final goodbye to designer Lagerfeld today. She is pictured left with Amanda Harlech who joined Lagerfeld at Chanel in 1996. Both women are believed to be wearing Chanel
