Ghanaian beauty queen, Chaana has revealed that she is facing difficulties in her line of work because of her beauty.

Salma Chaana Abul-Razak, the fourth runner-up of 2010 Ghana Most Beautiful pageant, said beauty can be a positive factor in a woman’s life but it also has its negative side.

Chaana

According to her, beauty has become a challenge because most men want to have sex with her before they can help her.

Speaking in an interview, she said: “Being pretty is a blessing and has opened loads of greater opportunities for most women but this same blessing has become my challenge.

“Many people, especially men sometimes want to help me because I am pretty and even want to have a taste of me in exchange for favours. I am usually able to overcome all these with the help of the home-sense instilled in me by my Grandmother who raised me.”

She said a number of young people today lack proper home training due to weak parental style adopted by the current generation of parents.

Chaana added: “Growing up, I never saw young people talking back at their elders or even arguing with their parents, but lately this has become the new normal. Some youth these days care less about dignity; they aim at fame and riches and will do anything possible to get it without considering the source.”

West African leaders on Saturday announced a billion-dollar plan to fight the rising problem of jihadist violence in the region, at a summit in Burkina Faso.

The plan, to be funded from 2020 to 2024, was announced at end of the Economic Community Summit of West African States in Ouagadougou, where the ECOWAS nations were joined by Mauritania and Chad.

ECOWAS had decided to mobilise “the financial resources of up to a billion dollars for the fight against terrorism”, said Niger’s President Mahamadou Issoufou.

The money, paid into a common fund, would help reinforce the military operations of the nations involved — and those of the joint military operations in the region.

Full details of the plan would be presented to the next ECOWAS summit in December.

The fight against the rising tide of jihadist violence in the region has so far been hampered by a lack of funds.

The G5 Sahel, a joint taskforce, was created in 2014 to try to tackle the problem, backed by former colonial power France.

From July 2017, it pooled troops from Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Mauritania and Niger in a bid to drive back the jihadist groups.

But a lack of finance, training and equipment, limited their effectiveness and their numbers. For the moment, the force numbers 4,000 troops, when 5,000 were originally planned.

ECOWAS — the Economic Community of West African States — brings together 15 countries whose economies range from regional heavyweights Nigeria and Ivory Coast to the impoverished Liberia and Sierra Leone.

Landlocked Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger are non-coastal states.

“However, in exceptional cases where the case is complex, Legal Advice are issued within three weeks,” he said.

Onigbanjo, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria revealed that in a situation whereby the Police forwarded the duplicate case file but Counsel made a request for further information or investigation, the timeline for delivery of
the legal advice starts to run when the additional information is received.

He said, “For the avoidance of doubt, the timelines are strictly adhered to by the DPP’s office.”

Attorney-General stressed that in the event that any member of the public has a case in which there is non-adherence to the timeliness already stated, complaints should be forwarded to the following:

California Assesses Damage After Second Major Earthquake https://dailyconcord.com/california-assesses-damage-after-second-major-earthquake/ Sun, 07 Jul 2019 05:36:29 +0000 https://dailyconcord.com/?p=14383 California – Emergency workers in Ridgecrest, Calif., were assessing damage after a second major earthquake

California – Emergency workers in Ridgecrest, Calif., were assessing damage after a second major earthquake of magnitude 7.1 struck the desert community northeast of Los Angeles on Friday night.

It followed a magnitude 6.4 quake near the city on Thursday. No deaths or major injuries have been reported from either major temblor, but Friday’s 7.1 magnitude quake, which was felt throughout Southern California and in neighboring Nevada, caused additional damage and left residents shaken.

Again, food flew off the shelves of supermarkets, and thousands of dollars’ worth of stock was destroyed in a liquor store.

“This earthquake was longer, but also concluded with a very, very strong jolt that felt like it was going to knock the whole place down,” said Victor Abdullatif, the owner’s son.

Far bigger jolt

Seismologists said the quake Friday was 10 times more powerful than Thursday’s earthquake.

“The [Friday] quake did last for some time,” said Mark Ghilarducci, director the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services. “It was felt widely throughout most of Southern California and even as far north here as Sacramento.”

California Gov. Gavin Newsom requested Saturday from President Donald Trump and the Federal Emergency Management Agency a Presidential Emergency Declaration for Direct Federal Assistance “to further support the communities impacted by the earthquakes.”

The larger size of the quake meant the temblors that came before it, including the 6.4, are now classified as pre-shocks. Aftershocks continue to rattle the region.

Fires, leaks

Emergency workers have dealt with fires, and water and gas leaks.

“Obviously, 34 hours in between earthquakes, we’re concerned about future aftershocks and where they’re going to be,” said Kern County Fire Chief David Witt. Hundreds of smaller quakes have jolted the region since Thursday.

Play continued at a Dodgers baseball game in Los Angeles, as fans decided what to do.

“Whether to run or stay in place and hope for the best,” recalled Dodgers fan Chris Banakas. “We stayed in place and it went over. “We were cool.”
